Being A Pagan

Another georgous day here in Toronto on a very lucky day (07/07/07).

On this show I do some mundane chatting about the newest (and sadly, last) Harry Potter book. I also read a few listener emails and do an unintentional live narrative of the Live Earth concert series (and if anyone know the name of the very first band that played at Aussie Stadium could you please pass it along? They were great!). This gets me into a tirade about Green living. If you're serious about it please run off to Green Feet for some fantastically environmentally friendly products. We screwed it up and now we have to make the hard sacrifices to fix it. Stop being selfish and do it!

Then, I finally get onto health. We as Pagans do what we can to help the environment but what about the environment that is our body? We can't help others or the environment if we drop dead of heart attacks and disease. We are the embodiment of the Goddess and God therefore we have a responsibility to treat ourselves like the Divine beings we are.

FREEDOM OF RELIGION AND THE UNITED STATES PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM

The United States was the first country to make religious freedom part of its fundamental law. Through the years, the ways in which people may practice and express their religious convictions has been refined by cases heard by he Supreme Court. This process has been particularly common where public schooling and religion intersect--- few issues receive so much public and legal attention. This checklist can help you determine whether your local public school is engaged in practices that have been addressed by the Court.

_______ My public high school starts its graduation ceremonies with a nondenominational prayer. Even nonsectarian prayer at a public school graduation is unconstitutional. It violates the constitutional prohibition on establishment of religion because it involves the government (acting through the public school) in a religious activity. Lee v Weisman, 505 U.S. 577 (1992)

_______ My local public school requires the students to observe a âprayerful moment of silenceâ every morning after the Pledge of Allegiance. Even if public school students are given the option of meditating during a moment of silence intended or prayer, requiring such a moment during the school day violates the Constitution. Wallace v. Jaffree, 472 U.S. 38 (1985)

______ The state started giving salary âboostersâ to teachers at the local religious schools. The government canât get involved in religious education financially, it could cause government to become entangled in religious matters Lemon v. Kurtzman, 403 U.S. 602 (1971)

______The school district pays for students to get bussed to voluntary monthly religious education programs. Certain expenditures can be made for social policy purposes that donât get the government too involved. For instance, in Everson v. Board of Education, 330 U.S. 1 (1947), it was considered acceptable for tax money to go to a bus fare program to get students to and from a religious school.

Alrighty, so seeing as I finally have a day off, I've been planning out a solid new format to the show and I'm going to need your help! I need ANYONE interested in being interviewed for a show, and who has skype (or wants to download it, it's free) as I'm poor and can't afford a toll free number, to email me. Trust me, you all have something to say and people want to hear from you!
Also, if you DO have something to say but don't want to download skype but have even minimal knowledge of how to record and send an mp3 file, please send it to me. Depending on the type of feedback I receive, I really want to play more of your audio, think of it like a feedback forum. You can sound off on whatever issue you'd like with the only stipulation being that it must be PAGAN related. No religion-bashing or anything like that, it must be about Paganism. No subject is taboo. If you have something to share (be it a thoughtprovoking realization or philosophy. Even a recipe or ritual.) or a concern (ie. "Witch Wars" or legal issues), let me air it for you!
If you've never recorded anything no worries, it's easy. Download a recording program (I use Audacity which is free and easy). Hit the record button, say what you want to say. Then save it and then export it as an AIFF file. Drop the file in your music program and then hit the "convert to mp3" button in your file. Done! Then all you have to do is email it to me. Of course, that's all if you have iTunes, can't really help you if you don't. Sorry!

So I've been trying to think about the most accessible way of letting you all know more information about what is discussed in the shows so I have decided to start an egroup. I originally had it turned to "announcement only" but changed it almost immediately so now anyone can chat about the show!
The main purpose, however, is to provide a forum where I can send out an announcement when each new show is uploaded and I can send you the links and more information about what I'm yakking about. So if you're interested, please head on over to: http://groups.google.com/group/paganliving and sign on up, if you have any problems just send me your email and I'll add you to save you the hassle. I know the Google Groups are in the beta stage so I hope that signing up won't be a problem, if it is and the intereste is still there, I may do the same in yahoo or something.

On this podcast: -My tale of survival through the unforgettable "War of Leaves", it was tough and emotional but I got through it and learned many lessons. -I go on about music and let you in on a memory from Japan that I will unlikely ever forget. I discuss music and emotions, my theory on why it has been popular to connect Satanism with music and the fact that I love music is such an important part of Paganism. -Also I have a contest running! I need a logo for the podcast, anything is game, the only rule is that it has to at least say "Pagan Living" on it. More on that in the next show!

Hey everyone! Just a quick note to tell ya I'll have the next show up sometime this weekend, it's about music and my theory on the popular notion of mixing music and the devil and you get a wee story about a spiritual experience I had seeing the drum troupe Kodo while in Japan. I apologize whole-heartedly about the audio of the last show, I didn't have time to edit and had no clue how the mix up at the beginning happened nor the reason why I'm only in the left speaker! LOL But the new show is better! Thanks for your patience! Oh yeah, and if you haven't seen the original "Saw", I suggest you watch it, I just did and thought it was incredible!!! Ultreya, Em

Here it is! I finally got it uploaded. The new super-sized edition of Pagan Living! I am still internetless so you'll have to bare with me until I get settled, you're going to have to put up with me talking to myself for just a tad bit longer! In this show I've just talked a bit about the paranormal, my thoughts on ghosts and spirits, my own personal experiences with the paranormal and you even get witness to a bit of a rant when I start talking about skeptics! LOL So I hope you enjoy the show and I want to thank those who have emailed and made comments about the show. Sorry for the delay folks! I've had this podcast ready for a few days now but with lack of 'net at home I've had to wait, hopefully this will all be taken care of by the end of October and I can get these shows up as soon as they're ready! This show is just about the title, pagan living. What is it to live a Pagan life? Do you think you live each day with your intentions and ethics in mind? If not, why not? And of course it's also just me blabbing away. I may make sense, I may not make sense. And I can't remember the music I played offhand so I'm going to have to make a separate post for that so please forgive me! Well look at that! 10 people have already downloaded my boring intro show! WOO!! Please email me at paganliving@gmail.com to give me some feedback! I do want to start listing some of the songs I play on the show as I know when I listen to shows I want to know about the artists played. For this show I only played snippets of two artists, the song for the intro and outtro of the show was "Season of the Witch" by Dr.John and the middle song was "Dinner With The Devil" by Canadian artist Big Rude Jake. If there's a topic someone would like discussed on the show please email me and let me know!
